Welcome to VoxBody Studio, the Bay Area’s rope-dedicated studio: a safe(r) space for rope & kink education, art and community!

VoxBody Studio opened in Spring 2017 in Oakland, California. Our first studio enjoyed three bustling years before COVID forced us to shutter our doors in March 2020. After 20 months of online programming, we reopened in February 2022 and look forward to welcoming you! We are still in Oakland, in a larger and more conveniently located space, and we STILL LOVE ROPE!

VoxBody Studio strives to be a safe(r) and inclusive space. We are always a work in progress. 

VoxBody means ‘the voice of the body.’ In this community space, we explore the interplay of body, mind, and emotions, and the many ways that expression can take form, with a special focus on our love of rope and kink. 

We offer monthly rope classes at all levels, several monthly rope jams, yoga, life drawing events, the occasional non-rope kink class, discussion groups, labtime and performance events! There is an in-house rope bondage curriculum that takes students from absolute beginner to suspension over the course of one year.  We will also continue with online programming in 2022.

We acknowledge that rope and kink is vulnerable play with inherent risk. Community involvement is an essential piece to maintaining a safer space. We invite you to actively participate in the environment we co-create. We occupy this space mindful of our responsibility to, and respect of, ourselves and others.

VoxBody works to be free from racism, sexism, ableism, homophobia, transphobia, and elitism. We believe that rope does not exist in a vacuum, that it is interpersonal and therefore political. We understand these unwelcome ‘isms’ can show up both overtly and implicitly, and are committed to the proactive work of recognizing and responding to them as we grow together. We are always a work in progress.

We believe in rope and kink education that includes bottom-empowerment and advocacy. We are Bay Area grown and locally made, and also welcome in an international network of rope-loving souls, instructors, and performers. We invite you into this space and hope you encounter the expression, technique, community, nurturing, practice, the sacred, or the profane that you are seeking.
